How often have you made a commitment to exercise consistently then don’t follow through?

At first you are super motivated and pumped up but after a few days or weeks your discipline gets weak.

For over two decades I have been an avid exercise devotee. Rarely missing my daily exercise routine, no more than a handful of times, mostly because I was traveling.

We often see discipline as depriving ourselves.

What if you chose to see it this way:

Discipline is self love. Self love is the foundation for real success.

Discipline is freedom. Freedom is it’s own reward.

Exercising and taking care of your body is a powerful commitment to yourself and your highest potential.

It is a commitment to loving yourself. Your body is the temple that houses your Spirit.

When you understand that it is not simply about exercising, working out, eating healthy, or looking good, but it’s the process of self love, then a powerful shift happens within you.

If your motivation is simply to look good for someone else, or to try and fit some ideal notion of what society dictates as beautiful, your motivation won’t last.

Your decision to exercise and eat healthy must be for YOU.

Three keys that have helped me stay motivated with my exercise are:

1) You must fully commit. Not half commit, not sort of commit, but FULLY commit. Your choice to exercise becomes no longer a choice. It then becomes a part of your life, and just the way it is. Then there is much less room for your mind to hi-jack your commitment based on the mood you happen to be in.

2) Discipline is freedom. The daily discipline it takes to do some form of exercise is life changing. The daily act of exercising your inner muscle of discipline alone will transform every area of your life not just your body.

If you can align your mind and have basic control over your body it is the foundation to get yourself to the next level. If you can’t get yourself to exercise then it’s often hard to get yourself to do many of the other things that you know are needed to step into your greatness.

3) Consistency is key. We often think that unless we can do some kind of mega workout then it’s not worth the time or won’t make a difference. But it’s the small steps that you take daily that end up making the big difference over time.

The myth is that you need to naturally or spontaneously feel like exercising. Let me make clear- You DO NOT have to feel like exercising in order to do it. If you wait for that special moment of inspiration it often never happens. More often than not it’s the other way around. It’s when you take the action based on your commitment that the inspiration flows.

I can’t even tell you how often I didn’t feel like exercising, going for a run or hitting the gym. Yet every time I chose to not be lazy and simply succumb to my mood I always felt amazing once I was done working out and so happy I did!

Your commitment must be bigger than your fleeting mood. Just because you don’t feel like exercising isn’t a reason not to. The real workout is in your mind.

So don’t listen to everything your mind tells you:

You don’t need to do it today.

You can start tomorrow.

It won’t make a difference if you skip one day.

Every time you follow through on your commitment you build internal trust within yourself. As you do this you develop more power. Then when you choose to manifest something else in your life, you have an inner congruency, and self respect to follow through.

If you can be disciplined in your exercise even if you don’t feel like it, then you realize that you can keep your heart open and love even if you have been hurt in the past or feel like closing.

If you can stay committed to your exercise even if you don’t feel like it then you can realize that you can also choose to not let fear overtake you and make courageous choices in life.

So in those moments you feel like hitting the snooze button, or your mind is sweet talking you into laziness, remember it is not just about exercising, it’s bigger than that.

It is your commitment to you.

Your commitment to self love.

Your commitment to living your full potential.

You are worth the commitment.

So step up and step into your greatness!
