It happens to the best of us….

A bad day.

Things don’t flow how you’d like. You feel a bit out of sorts. Everything that can go wrong seems to. Or you get out of bed feeling a bit off.

No matter how bad your day might be going, know this: You are not powerless.

Just because your day is not going well it doesn’t have to continue that way.

Instead look at the day, and decide what you are going to make of it.

YOU decide.

You can let the day decide your state of mind. You can let the day dictate to you how you are going to feel….But this is the victim’s path.

You are so much more powerful than that!

Just because you made your bed doesn’t mean you have to continue lying in it. At any moment you can stand up and remake the moment. Every moment provides you a new choice. And every choice you make will affect your life.

Just because the day is “bad”, or had been until now, doesn’t mean it needs to continue to be. When you realize this, you see that in each moment you can choose. In that choice is power, no one to blame, only full responsibility.

Bad days aren’t death sentences, but simply an opportunity for you to dig deep and find out what you are really made of.

The real measure of a human is not in how you handle the good times when everything goes your way, this is easy, but in how you deal with failure, things not turning out how you envisioned, or adversity.

Consider this: “Bad or good” is really determined by your perspective and how you choose to interpret the events in your life, this will determine your reality. Just because you are having a “bad” day doesn’t mean it actually is. It might seem to be in this moment yet you may look back months or years from now and realize, that had that not happened just the way it did then, you wouldn’t be where you are today.

So give up labeling your day as “bad”. The moment you put the “bad” label on your day it reinforces it and gives it power.

“Bad” days sometimes happen…it’s OK. Good/bad. Light/dark. Up/down. Yin/yang…It’s all a part of life. So know when you might be on a down cycle, nothing is wrong, it’s just part of life. Embrace it and you will live in freedom no matter what the outer circumstances are.

Now that doesn’t mean you have to wallow in feeling bad, or indulge the negativity.

There comes a moment where you must make a choice.

When having a bad day it’s easy to get caught up in judging the day and ourselves. When you’re having a bad day, notice how you tend to focus on everything that is going bad or not working. It’s ok to acknowledge it, but focus on what is working and the opportunity.

Rather than focusing on all the things out of your control, choose to focus on the things that you can control and change.

Rather than staying stuck in negative patterns, you can do something out of your normal routine that completely interupts your comfortable habits. Rather than stay stuck at your desk, or sitting feeling sorry for yourself you can:

Turn on some music and dance…naked!

Go give free hugs to strangers!

Read and share some jokes!

Watch some inspirational videos! (From Kute 🙂)

Go and exercise!

Take a walk in nature…hug a tree!

Do cartwheels for 15 minutes!

Laugh for 10 minutes, whether you feel like it or not!

Visit a neighborhood you have never been to and pretend you are a tourist!

Do some yoga!

Choose to be of service and forget about yourself for a moment. Volunteer your time to a good cause!

Blindfold yourself for a few hours!

Play with a child!

Take 100 deep breaths…whilst smiling at the same time!

No matter what you are going through, remember that “This too shall pass.”. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t even sweat the big! Feel beyond yourself, and feel others.

Just remember how blessed you are amidst it all.

Perhaps the mail didn’t arrive this one day, but how about all the other 364 plus times it does?

Perhaps your plane got delayed and made you have a few extra hours of traveling, but isn’t it great that we no longer have to catch a boat overseas!

Perhaps you don’t have any money in the bank, but you have your health and opportunities to create it!

So ask yourself:

“What is great about my day?”

“Am I willing to be responsible for making this day amazing?”

“How can I make this day the best day of my life? What actions do I need to take?”

Don’t just look at how far you need to go, but acknowledge how far you have come!

Then commit to creating the best day of your entire life. Most of us aren’t committed, we simply go through the day and let it happen to us, rather than truly creating it!

Let go of control.

Take action.
